20 QUESTIONS WITH JASMINE "JAZZY" JORDAN
This month we feature an amazing young woman with a HUGE heart! Jasmine "Jazzy" Jordan, a 16 year old has been training hard running with
sights on getting to the 2012 summer
Olympics.
Jazzy's parents own and run a small trucking and
pilot car company. A driver for them by the
name of Sheila Grothe took sick and was lost to
Cancer. That day Jazzy made a decision to do something to change
the system so people who don't have medical coverage that will
pay for treatments like Sheila needed, will have options.
She learned of the St. Christopher Truckers Develoment and Relief fund and
felt she could make a difference starting there.
Jazzy's plan is to run from Los Angeles, CA. To New York City,
NY. Her goal is to raise attention to the growing problem with
people who have medical issues who are under insured and not
insured. Jazzy sufferend an injury but is back in action and has resumed her run!! Thank you Jazzy for your efforts!

Jazzy Jordan: I grew up in a trucking family.
TP: What prompted you to run across the country?
Jazzy Jordan: The death of a driver that worked for my mom driving pilot cars for Jordan Enterprises pilot division.
TP: How did you find out about the St Christopher fund?
Jazzy Jordan: I learned about the St. Christopher's fund through my Dad and XM radio.
TP: What kind of training did you have to do to prepare for your cross country run?
Jazzy Jordan: I had to increase cardio and learn to pace for distance. Learned preventive exercises. Weight trained for leg strength, and continued to increase miles running.
TP: How many months did you have to train before starting your cross country run?
Jazzy Jordan: To start this run it was 4.5 months but I've been training for one year in running, under the instruction of a coach.
TP: How did you choose the route you planned to run?
Jazzy Jordan: My Dad planned the route to start from the southwest and stay south during the cold months then slowly angling north and heading east in to a much more populated area for more awareness and by the time we get to the more populated areas the media will have all had a look and will be following which should bring more and more awareness as we go.
TP: On average how many miles did you run per day?
Jazzy Jordan: I ran anywhere between 17 and 21.5 miles per day 6 days a week.
TP: How far did you make it in to your run before suffering your injury?
Jazzy Jordan: I made it to Deming NM which was 622.1 miles in to the run and 1.5 months into the run is when the injury occurred.
TP: Other then this run, what was your most challenging run so far?
Jazzy Jordan:I ran a 5K in Fargo ND in January 2009 and the weather was -30 degrees
TP: What kind of music motivates you when running?
Jazzy Jordan: Music doesn't really motivate me its the people whom have made pledges to donate based on the miles I run or what they drive. The honks and the waves.
TP: What can you be found doing when your have downtime?
Jazzy Jordan: When I'm not running I am usually doing school work or in the gym weight training with my Dad.
TP: What is your most memorable moment you had on the run?
Jazzy Jordan: The most memorable times Is when truckers and Dave Nemo's Silent partner Danny and Daroline Gonzales have come out of their way to meet me and when people come to run with me.
TP: Will you have the opportunity to finish the run when your injury has healed?
Jazzy Jordan: Yes
TP: Has the injury you suffered on the run hampered your training for the Olympics?
Jazzy Jordan: No, if I still retrain for the olympics this injury will not affect anything.
TP: If completed, would you have been the youngest woman to complete a cross country run?
Jazzy Jordan: Yes, I will be the youngest to ever attempt and complete this run.
TP: Is there anything you would like to see change in the trucking industry?
Jazzy Jordan: The health care opportunity and affordable insurance for health care.
TP: What one goal do you want to achieve?
Jazzy Jordan: For everyone to be able to get the health care they need.
TP: What advice would you give aspiring young athletes?
Jazzy Jordan: Just to believe in your self, pay attention to what your body is telling you or what it needs. Never give up on your dreams you'll reach them if you work hard enough at them.
TP: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Jazzy Jordan Unsure at this time there are many roads to travel between now and then.
TP: You have given a lot to the industry, is there anything the industry can do to help you reach your goals?
Jazzy Jordan: Continue to support each other by donating to the SCF and keeping it going strong for all those that need it.
TP: What's next for Jasmine "Jazzy" Jordan?
Jazzy Jordan: Graduation next year, Running with Paul Staso, A Degree in Accounting.
