November 2009
Daniel's Bio
A driver and a writer, Daniel's hoping to make the jump to full time writing and radio show host.
He can be found almost everynight broadcasting live on The Truckstar.com
Raw, uncensored REAL talk radio. This definitely ISN'T the kind of talk radio grandpa listens to. Call in and hang out with us!
CALL IN - 954-376-8452, SKYPE - "the truckstar live", TWITTER - @truckstarradio, FaceBook
Daniel Audet - In the early 70's I began working in the tree industry here in south florida, then, on and off over the next 30 years I drove big trucks to haul large trees, gravel, etc.
TP: How did you get the name "The Original Florida Kid"?
Daniel Audet - In the early 70's, also I was a competitive surfer and travelled across the US to California and Mexico to train in bigger better surf, I bought a cb radio to talk with the truckers. They began calling me the "florida kid", we crossed the US sometimes 10 or more times a year.
TP: How long have you been doing TruckStar Radio?
Daniel Audet - I became a radio station in Aug. of 08' but did not begin to broadcast till Dec. of 08' or Jan. 09'.
TP: Where did the idea for your radio show come from?
Daniel Audet - From years of being in and around show business and a short stint as a dj in LA at a rock station, I always had ideas about how I might do a station and a show. Mostly what was wrong with what I felt the way "on air" stations connected with listeners was.
TP: How many books have you written?
Daniel Audet - I am currently working on 3 books, all 3 with publisher interest and bestseller author mentors.
TP: What is your favorite subject to write about?
Daniel Audet - I don't really have a "favorite" subject persay, but I do have points of view that are evident in my writing, from the characters perspective.
TP: Do you have a favorite brand of truck?
Daniel Audet - Yes, I like the Western Star and the Navistar, naturally.(laughing)
TP: What was your most challenging run as a driver so far?
Daniel Audet - In Dec. of 07' I drove a $700,000 boat thru both blizzards that crossed the country that winter killing a lot of people.
TP: What was your most memorable moment on TruckStar Radio?
Daniel Audet - I've had many. Each time a driver, not just the celebrities and better known writers, but the every day driver or loved one of a driver, when they call in for the first time, sometimes nervous or shy but wanting to talk and be involved in a conversation with the guest or other drivers, and suddenly they realize that they really DO matter to me and the others. Those to me are the most memorable and best moments.
TP: What can you be found doing when your have downtime?
Daniel Audet - I don't have downtime, unless you mean the times I "fall" down from exhaustion. (laughing)
TP: What is your most memorable moment as a driver?
Daniel Audet - The first time I drove a big rig by myself and did a 90 degree back in at a truck stop.
TP: What is the biggest goal you would like to accomplish?
Daniel Audet - To make a difference in the industry I have fallen in love with. A difference in the lives of people who do, and have done, a great service to this country in times of war, natural and man made disaster and just the every day bump and grind of bringing people food, water, medical supplies, electronics, and even lawn furniture.
TP: How many animals / pets do you have?
Daniel Audet - Right now, 2. Pup the Wonder Dog, who has his own Twitter page and is getting quite the attitude, and a cat named Woofie.
TP: In your opinion what is the biggest obstacle truck driver's face today?
Daniel Audet - The biggest obstacle, and this is the root of the problems and condition of the industry today as far as drivers are concerned, is this - The American Driver has never been able to, for a number of reasons, organize or get together as a body to take action in the industry on any front, whether it politics, government or whatever. Until that happens the drivers will always be at the mercy of trucking ownership and politics.
TP: Does "Pup the Wonder Dog" have a story to tell?
Daniel Audet - He does. His mission is to protect his momma, Barbie my wife, when I'm gone - and he does. He is the most dedicated focused dog I have ever seen when it comes to doing his job. But other than that, he pretty much hangs out by the pool and likes to go to the beach
TP: What one thing would you change with the industry if you could?
Daniel Audet - I would change the level of involvement drivers have, and have had, in the politics of the industry, meaning, how drivers are considered and treated and involved.
TP: What advice would you give new drivers?
Daniel Audet - To take the time to learn from a true veteran professional, to go online and take part in the better forums talking with other drivers to determine what the best type of driving and company is right for them to give their time and loyalty to.
TP: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Daniel Audet - Doing frontline rescue of abused kids here in south Florida, and hopefully large animal rescue on the ranch in Tenn.
TP: Where do you see the trucking industry in 10 years?
Daniel Audet - If things continue in the direction they appear to be going it will be a vastly different industry on several levels. From a "driver" standpoint, and I feel this will be the most noticeable difference, to the movement of freight, meaning where it will be coming in from and how it will be transported. It will be almost completely outsourced and far more segmented in terms of freight distribution.
TP: What's next for Daniel Audet?
Daniel Audet - To see where TruckstarRadio will go, just how big I can make it. Then, to take some time to spend with my darling wife who has been patiently watching me travel the world for 30 years. I do have another idea for a radio network in another industry that I am laying the groundwork for, and have been since last year. Also, to stay on the cutting edge of mobile communications and use the technology to make a difference in the world.
TP: Did we forget anything? If you have anything to add here is the place!
Daniel Audet - Not really.
